Платформа: Panasonic 3DO
Разработчик: River Hill Software
Год выпуска: 1995
Описание: Игра напоминает известный Alone in the Dark. Здесь вас также ждёт заброшенный дом, полный загадок, а также злые монстры.
Оригинальное описание/релиз: Years ago, famed archeologist Dr. Hauzer discovered an ancient secret while on expedition in a far-off land. He claimed what he found would bring immense power, but then disappeared from the face of the earth. After receiving a strange message, you, Dr. Arthur Addams have come to his dreary mansion in search of clues to his whereabouts, and possibly to discover what became whatever the he had found. Watch your step, the road to discovery has many perilous turns.... and in this case, a few bottomless pits too.In a bizzare ode to the final years of 3DO, one could mention DOCTOR HAUZER quite fondly. With the survival horror genre just coming into being, and our beloved system needing a good shot in the arm, up popped this little gem. Unfortunate timing of it's completion prevented this one from ever seeing a worldwide release, however, even for the non-Japanese speaker/reader, there is a lot of fun gamplay within. Just don't expect to pick up on the whole story. ;-)Seeming to be an off-shoot of the ALONE IN THE DARK series on 3DO, the graphics are very reminicent of that horror classic. Comprized of flat polgons on moderately detailed 3-D models. There is a new twist though. No longer are you limited by the theatrical style camera angles. Instead you can switch on the fly between that, a top down view and a first person perspective. All of which help in solving certian puzzles. But I found playing the game all from the first person perspective to be quite a fun and more intresting challenge.
However, one problem still had yet to be overcome. Speed. Wow! does this one animate slowly. Kind of like watching the run scene from Chariots of Fire. Not wholly bad all in all, but it can be off-putting for some. Our hero when running even looks like he's ice skating. A good case for FPS only. ;-)Perhaps it was by design that they didn't try to sell this one too hard with it's sound and music. The standard music for the game gets REALLY repetetive and restarts with every room change. Not bad but gets boring quickly. Combined with the lack of good ambient sounds, it really drops the immersion level down a few pegs. Too few changes in background sounds, and really too little different at all really detract from the overall experience.
Since it's already running slow though, I think too much more in the game engine, and it would have been reduced to a near zero speed.
Control is pretty much dead on even with the standard controler. A real plus considering the games' limited overall speed. Switching between cameras is done at the touch of the L-Button, and is instantaneous. A real plus when trying to solve puzzles or find something that may not be visible by the 3rd person camera.Wrapping it all up, this is a good classic survival horror game, with alot of good elements. However, put together, it just suffers from it's parts rather than lives in harmony with them. Perhaps if it had more time in R&D and refinement it would have made it a better title.
Lacking more story or plot development, this game is just too short, and too easy to be really enjoyable in the long run. Plus once you've beaten it, there is little reason to play it again.
Reccomended for fans of survival horror.
