Оригинальное описание/релиз: Squall Leonhart is a young man, who is in training to become of member of SeeD - a special fighting unit, the dream of all the young students in Balamb Garden. Squall's social life can be described as non-existent: he's not friendly, he's not nice, and at times he's simply rude. He seems to control his gunblade much better than his tongue. But all this starts to change gradually when a lively, charming young woman enters his life - Rinoa Heartily, the only one who is able to "reform" him and to evoke his deeply concealed feelings. Together with her and with his friends Squall fights against a witch which seems to bring destruction and tyranny to the planet, provoking a war between two countries. But nobody expected that behind all this lies a much more sinister and dangerous conspiracy. Squall and his friends experience a strange phenomenon of spiritually uniting with Laguna Loire, a simple soldier who seemingly has nothing to do with the present story of the young people. But only this mysterious connection will eventually lead to the liberation from the power no one even suspected to exist.
"Final Fantasy VIII" introduces some new features, while being based on the turn-based/real time engine which became the trademark of Final Fantasy since the SNES days. You don't have the trusty MP gauge; instead, you must draw magic spells from enemies or "draw points" scattered around the game world and store them in your inventory. The central place in the gameplay of "Final Fantasy VIII" take the Guardian Forces, monsters which allow the player not only to summon them in fight, but to junction magic spells to the character's abilities, thus enriching the character customization and providing a flexible role-playing. Another major change was the graphical transition to realistically proportioned characters, as opposed to the dominating "super-deformed" style of the Japanese RPGs.
